Crochet Bookmark and Paper Clip

Crochet heart paperclips are a charming, quick DIY craft project used as decorative planner clips, page markers, and unique gifts.

๐Ÿ› ️ Materials Needed

  • Yarn: Medium (worsted weight) cotton or acrylic scrap yarn works best.
  • Hook: A 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm crochet hook depending on your yarn thickness.
  • Clips: Large, jumbo-sized paperclips (around 1.5 to 2 inches).
  • Extras: A yarn needle, scissors, and optionally fabric glue or a small piece of felt.

๐Ÿงถ Quick 1-Round Pattern (Make 2)

  1. Start with a magic ring (or chain 4 and slip stitch to form a ring).
  2. Chain 2
  3. Work all of the following stitches directly into the ring:
    • 3 Triple (Treble) Crochet
    • 3 Double Crochet
    • Chain 1, 1 Triple Crochet, Chain 1 (This forms the bottom point)
    • 3 Double Crochet
    • 3 Triple (Treble) Crochet
  4. Chain 2, then slip stitch back into the center ring.
  5. Pull the tail tight to close up the middle hole. Fasten off and weave in the loose ends.

๐Ÿ“Ž Assembly Methods

  • The Glue Method: Apply a dab of strong fabric glue or hot glue to the top (looped end) of the paperclip. Sandwich the paperclip between two identical crochet hearts so the clip is completely hidden and looks neat from both sides
  • The Felt Backing Method: Glue one crochet heart to the paperclip, then secure it by gluing a small matching piece of felt over the clip wire on the back side.
  • The Stitch Method: Use your yarn needle to physically sew the bottom loops of a single crochet heart directly around the top bar of the paperclip
Are you planning to make these yourself as a project, or are you looking to buy finished clips for a gift or planner?
