Deep half double crochet stich
The deep half double crochet (DHDC), also known as the "below the bar" HDC, is a slight variation of the standard HDC. By inserting your hook into the space below the "third loop" (the horizontal bar at the front of the stitch) instead of the top loops, you create a denser, reversible fabric with no visible horizontal lines. How to Work the Deep Half Double Crochet
- Prepare: Ensure you have a starting row of standard half double crochet stitches. Chain 1 and turn your work.
- Yarn Over: Yarn over your hook.
- Insert Hook: Locate the horizontal "bar" on the front of the HDC from the previous row. Insert your hook into the space directly below that bar.
- Pull Up a Loop: Yarn over again and pull the yarn back through the stitch. You should now have three loops on your hook.
- Finish: Yarn over one final time and pull through all three loops on your hook. This completes one DHDC stitch. [1, 2, 4, 6]
Repeat these steps across the row, always ensuring you drop your hook into the slot below the horizontal bar from the previous row rather than the standard top loops. [2, 6]
